About without fear
Over the past 14 years, Syrian cinema has been subjected to ideological control and strict restrictions. With the recent changes in the country, we have a historic opportunity to rebuild the Syrian film sector on new foundations of freedom and creativity.
In this pivotal moment, the «Without Fear» project comes as a vital strategic step to revive Syrian cinema and present it in the authentic form it has lost for decades, at a time when the Syrian economy is experiencing slow but tangible stability, reflecting a genuine desire to open up to new horizons. «Without Fear» aims to produce 14 short fiction films in 2025, for Syrian talents from both inside and outside Syria, showcasing rich and culturally diverse Syrian stories, while presenting films characterized by high artistic quality.
The project aims to offer human narratives representing Syrian life in all dimensions, free from political or ideological constraints, celebrating Syrian society’s cultural and human diversity. This project is not limited to restoring the position of Syrian cinema but also looks further to create a fruitful environment for creativity and cultural exchange, paving the way for wide opportunities for cinematic collaboration between Syria and the world.
«Without Fear» represents a real opportunity to enhance communication among Syrians worldwide and strengthen social cohesion by presenting artistic works that contribute to rebuilding the memory of Syrians, while emphasising the growth and innovation potential of the Syrian film industry. The project seeks to support Syrian filmmakers in producing short fiction films with artistic value, telling stories from Syrian reality with freedom and honesty. It aims to create new horizons for Syrian cinema to play its role in narrating Syrian stories in all their cultural and social diversity.

A maximum of 14 short feature films are directed by Syrian filmmakers.
selection critetia
- Short fiction with a maximum length of 15 minutes
- The film's director must be Syrian, residing either in Syria or aboard.
- All filming locations must be within Syria.
- The production company, Al-Masnaa', will hire the production crew, except for the Director of Photography, whom the director has the right to choose.
- The films are divided into two categories: the first for directors with previous experience «professionals», and the second for emerging directors or recent graduates.
- The 14 films selection process will consider cultural, demographic, and gender diversity among the directors.

Without Fear Execution Timeline
The following timeline is the ideal developed plan for executing the project. However, these dates may be subject to minor changes related to the funding flow, adjustments to production budgets, logistics during the production phase, and the nature of the films.

Phase 1: Application Opening
- Opening the application for filmmakers and creatives inside and outside Syria.
- Promoting the project through various channels and platforms to ensure it reaches the largest possible number of creatives.
- Receiving films and projects via the designated platforms.

Phase 2: Evaluation
- Preparing detailed production plans for each selected film individually.
- Hiring the technical teams (actors, photographers, technicians, etc.).
- Scouting and determining filming locations, as well as providing the necessary resources.
- Organizing workshops to clarify the technical details for the creatives.
- Finalizing production agreements with filmmakers. -
Phase 3: Pre-Production
- Preparing detailed production plans for each selected film individually.
- Hiring the technical teams (actors, photographers, technicians, etc.).
- Scouting and determining filming locations, as well as providing the necessary resources.
- Organizing workshops to clarify the technical details for the creatives.
- Finalizing production agreements with filmmakers. -
Phase 4: Production
- Starting the filming process according to the set plans.
- Each film requires a maximum of 5 days of shooting.
- Periodically reviewing the films during the shooting process.
- Coordinating with the directors and creatives to ensure adherence to the artistic vision. -
Phase 5: Post-Production
- Starting the editing process for the films, one by one.
- Making the necessary adjustments to the films regarding sound, visuals, special effects, and music.
- Collaborating with the directors to refine and clarify the artistic vision.
- Organizing final review sessions for the films with a specialized committee.
- Making final adjustments to the films to ensure their quality. -
Phase 6: Distribution and Screenin
The distribution and screening phase, including premieres, film festivals, and screenings in various local and international platforms (specific details would be added based on the plan).

Importance of Supporting Without Fear! What do the sponsors get in return?
Social responsibility towards Syrian youth and opening new job opportunities for them, as this project includes more than 100 new job opportunities for youth during the preparation, production and post-production stages.
